Highway Roads Take Me Home....The Long Drive To Vermont.....

We used to drive to Vermont at least twice a year when we lived in New Jersey....It was the Long Drive to Vermont....We always said the last hour was the worst!  We also always looked for certain things along the way....This car on top of the building was one of those things we always looked for...It meant we were almost out of New Jersey....
The next sign was the New York Thruway exit sign....The joke is you always have to pay to get into and out of New Jersey...Why is that???
My husband always does the driving....Which I'm glad he does.  Stop taking photos of me.....I try to get everyone to play crazy car games....how many states license plates will we see??  Of course the kids now have their games and they are so not into it...
We are almost in New York...
Are we there yet....No we have hours to go....The nice thing is the bad weather came on the day we were stuck in a car...Cloudy and light rain is nice compared to sun!
Our next favorite spot is this big bridge...
We once saw a train on the big black bridge...We are almost to Massachusetts... It used to take us 7 hours to drive to Vermont...I think it was all the stops we made along the way because it was not taking as long today...
This is the Half way point....When the kids were little we would meet my parents here and they would drive me and the kids to their house and we would spend a week...Then meet my husband again the following week...
We have made it to Massachusetts.   When you rent a car you can get the easy pass with it, be careful to figure out if you really need it...We paid our own tolls as they charge you a daily fee with the rental company which ends up being about $100.00 and the tolls were no where near that much.
You can't read the sign but it's the "French Kings Bridge" One year we read it wrong and thought is said "The French Kissing Bridge"  L.O.L.  Daniel Steel has a book written that takes place in this part of Massachusetts I read it a long time ago and have decided to read it again....The book is called "The Ghost"  An interesting little side note...On the way we were flipping through radio channels and the song "Paper Roses"  came on and it was so cool because I used to sing that with my Grandmother Miller while she played the organ...It was like a welcome home sign...
Finally we have made it to the Vermont welcome center...They always have cool stuff to look at in this big barn type structure.

They had this fun sign to stand behind...The kids made some crazy faces...but I blacked them out because I would never want to put something out there that might have one of them teased about...But you can see Totoro....The drive actually only took 5 hours probably because we didn't stop for food....Next up our Vermont Vacation Memories....
