Mom of a Missionary...Emails from Mexico April 9, 2018

Hello, friends and family. Elder Bowlby here once again.

It's been another week here in victoria (and it's felt pretty lengthy). My companion got sick from eating too much, so we stayed in again this tuesday. Little by little, we're starting to see progress in this area, but it's very slow. We're working very hard.

Some of the things we struggle with the most are the first appointment and getting the investigators to go to church. We set up appointments with everyone who will set one, but will they really be there? We never know. It's a case of Schrodingers Investigator. We must consider the investigator at home and not at home at the same time.

If we get the first cita, it's very easy to return, the hardest part is then getting them to come to church. Many people here in mexico, even though the population is somewhat like 90% christian (and even that number is a majority of catholic), work on sunday. It seems that many churches don't teach the 10 commandments out here. It's really odd.

We have a few investigators out here who actually do the additional study we assign, but they just don't go to church. They love learning about the gospel, they read the Book of Mormon, and pray... but they just don't come to church.

That's not to say nobody attended, though! We have had some luck here and there. We're doing what we can to bring people to a stronger relation with Jesus and our Heavenly Father. There's only so much that I personally can do, really. It's all in the hands of the Lord.

I'm chugging a long, little by little. Can you believe there are only 9 days left until I complete the year mark? I hear that it goes by really fast after the year mark (probably because it becomes a quickening count-down).

Here's a scripture that I enjoyed reading during my personal study:

Yea, and it came to pass that the Lord our God did visit us with assurances that he would deliver us; yea, insomuch that he did speak peace to our souls, and did grant unto us great faith, and did cause us that we should hope for our deliverance in him.

I know that the Lord speaks peace and assurance unto those who search for him and seek to do his will. I know that if I do my best, the Lord will make up the rest.

Love you all. Miss you loads! Take care and stay safe!
