Life of a shop girl, the phone talker.

So Norm catches this so accurately!  The customer who comes in to the store and literally ignores the associate helping them while talking on their phone.

It’s rude, it’s annoying and it probably happens every day.  I try very hard to not be on my phone in a store just because I know what it feels like to try to do a service job and be treated like you are not worthy of being acknowledged.

So if you are a shopping phone talker, think how you would feel if you were the person working in the store.

Put the phone away and treat service workers with kindness.

Life of a shop girl, morning me versus night me.

Morning shop girl is happy and ready for the day.
Armed with a lovely caffeinated drink.

Middle of the day shop girl is trying to make sure everything has been checked ✅ off her to do list. Which are usually written on sticky notes.

End of day shop girl is exhausted 😴.
She is hoping to get home to a clean house so she can rest. She is glad there are no small children that she has to care for.
She feels like a walking zombie.
Hope you survived your day.
Kimberly.

Taken with my little camera, a beautiful fall day for walking.

We took a drive to Park city Utah to walk around the
Historic McPolin barn.
It was a beautiful fall day and I so enjoyed the nature walk.

I was trying to be creative with my photography.

A cedar waxwing, it looks like it is eating a wasp.

I love this photo of an American goldfinch.
Some people saw me with my little camera and asked me to take a photo of their family.
They said they loved it and were going to use it as their Christmas card.
It was nice to help them get a family photo.
Have a wonderful day.

Life of a shop girl.. customers really think 🤔 there are more in the back of the store.

This is real. You will know that your store is out of stock for
An item and the customer will not believe you until you check the back.

Then they will have you call all the stores near your store to
Look 👀 for the item they want.
With online ordering they will then try to order the item from your store online and then be annoyed with you because you don’t have it.  They tend to think that the online site will magically make you have the item.
Do you have a retail story?

Life of a shop girl, the dread of selling credit cards.

If you work in retail, you need to read this comic book.
It’s true to the retail workplace struggles.

I worked for a store that the main goal each day was to sell credit cards.  You were always trying to beat how many you sold the year before.  You would be made to feel pathetic if you didn’t make that goal.
You were belittled by the corporate management.
But like the girl in the comic says “who needs another credit card.” I felt the company was a credit card company disguised as a retail store. People probably paid way more to them in credit card debt than for their original purchase.
So glad I left.

Life of a Shop girl.

My favorite movie is “ You’ve Got Mail.”
My blog site has been “Garden girl, because I used to love gardening. And Kathleen Kelly’s email was “Shopgirl”
That movie made me want to work in a bookstore.
I have worked in retail shops since 2009 when
I lost my beloved library job.

I want to share my “Shop Girl” stories.
Some days I leave feeling very tired.
And yes I use a lot of sticky notes.
Are you excited about Taylor Swifts new album
“ Life Of A Showgirl?”
I am.  It made me think about making this blog post.
Have a lovely day.
