Cat Chat With Dynamite the Rescued Cat. A little Cat Poetry.

Dynamite and I love looking for all things cat.  

Today we are going to share a little cat poem with you.

We hope to have more in the future.  

This poem is called 

"The Naming Of Cats."  By T.S. Eliot.

When you notice a cat in profound meditation,

The reason, I tell you, 

is always the same:

His mind is engaged in rapt contemplation 

of the thought,

of the thought, of his name:

His ineffable effable 

effanineffable 

deep and inscrutable 

singular name.

Can I tell you my cat may not sit around and think about

her name.

But I often wonder who named her "Dynamite."?

I also wonder often what her first name was, because 

Dynamite was the name the shelter gave her.  I often think of what other names she could have had.

She could have been Ginger, or Carrot cat.

She could have been peaches and cream.

She could have been called Kitty, or Lady.

It drives the rest of my family crazy that I wonder what her name used to be.

Dynamite fits her pretty good though.

Sometimes we call her Dyna or Lady Di.

Cat Chat With Dynamite The Rescued Cat. Can you have too many photos of your cat?

One of my new year goals is to declutter my life. 

That includes going through and organizing and deleting photos.

Today was one of those snowy winter days where leaving the house

was the last thing I wanted to do.  So I got to spend time 

removing the photos from my phone and organizing them.

My main subject is Dynamite.  Probably

because she is always doing something that makes me think

"isn't that so cute?"  Or "Doesn't she look so pretty?"

This is the stare down she gave us at Thanksgiving when she

wasn't invited to have steak dinner with us.  "What do you mean

I can't have dinner with you?"

She likes to crawl under the blankets to do sneak attacks on her

toys.

Just one of those don't I look so cute taking a cat nap photos.

She jumped into this bag, didn't even cause it to tip over. 

"Did you forget to buy cat treats?"

This cute thing she does of covering her paws with her tail.

"No you may not use your computer."

With digital cameras, and phones that take photos you 

can have hundreds of photos of your pet.  I know I do.

At what point is it too much?? 

I'm not sure...  I probably do have way too many photos of my cat.  But I know 

there are a whole lot of other people on instagram that have the same problem.

The nice thing is that they don't take up too much space.

Do you have tons of photos of your pet? 

I know its probably silly, but I just keep taking more photos.  In some ways

on days when I can't go out and see new things, at least I have Dynamite to

practice my photography skills on.

Cat Chat With Dynamite The Rescued Cat. A bit about our favorite podcast.

It's 6 a.m. and Dynamite is getting ready for a cat nap and I am 

getting ready to listen to our favorite cat podcast, Nine Lives with Dr. Kat. 

We have started to listen to a bunch of different cat podcasts, many

of them only have a few episodes and then they are done, but 

Dr. Kat has been doing her podcast since 2017, and she is still doing her show.

Being new to podcasts I have gone back to the older podcast and I'm listening to 

them first.  I really like the different topics that she touches on

and it has helped me to learn about different issues that

cats and cat owners deal with.

Throughout the year I hope to share with you things that I have learned 

from the show.  One thing that I have been studying up on 

and Dr. Kat talks about is cat obesity.  I'm trying very hard

to keep Dynamite from getting fat.  One thing that we do that was recommended

by Dr. Kat is hiding Dynamites kibble meal all around the house.

That's right she does not get her dry food in a bowl.  She has to hunt for it. 

I put her in a room and hide her kibble all over the first level of our house. 

Many mornings Dyna will go into the room that I usually put her in and hide to show that she is ready to hunt for her food. I think she likes to do this. It's supposed to help bring out the hunter instinct and keep your cat from getting overweight.

Explore Utah. A winter walk at Utah Lake, Eagles, Herons and Cats...Oh My!

what a great surprise to see a Bald Eagle at the lake this afternoon.

I was hoping to see some new birds on our walk today

but did not expect to see this.  What a wonderful treat.

We also had a little furry visitor follow us on our walk.

He must be someones pet as he was too friendly to 

be a wild cat.

What a handsome boy.

The Gulls were in their usual spot.

The little hunter.

The Heron was a great treat to see too.

It was a great day for a walk and some nice nature therapy.

The Heron got on the boat dock.  What a huge bird.

Cat Chat With Dynamite The Rescue Cat. Dealing with pet loss. January 15,2020

Last year on January 18th we said goodbye to our sweet cat Amber. 

We had Amber in our family for almost 12 years.  She was our first family pet.

We rescued her so we really don't know how old she was. 

She loved all of us, and we loved her.   The grief of losing Amber was as strong, if not stronger

that that of losing a relative to me.  She was my constant companion at home. 

I expected to have her around for a lot more years. 

 I can't believe that a whole year has passed.  I am not brought to tears at her loss anymore.

But I do still miss her.  Each animal you have has it's own personality and while we 

ended up adopting a new cat, we still talk often about Amber.

She was such a big part of our life at home.  

I found this beautiful quote on Pinterest about the passing of a cat.

Lucky Cat.....

My eyes are getting heavy now, my time has come to leave,

but one thing I must tell you as you stay behind to grieve...

you always did your best for me, your love it knew no end,

I really was a Lucky Cat to have you as my friend.

I see how much you miss me now,

your days seem bleak and bare,

I know you well, your heart is big

you still have love to share.

So please don't sit and cry for me,

We'll meet around the bend,

til then another, Lucky Cat

is waiting for a friend. 

I wouldn't give the above poem to someone right after they have lost their loved pet.

People need time to grieve the loss of a pet before thinking of getting a new pet. 

I spent many days crying and allowing myself to be sad.  I think it's important to 

allow yourself to feel sad, to allow those feelings to be there. 

Eventually as the months move on the moments of grief lessen. 

My son made this for me. It's me being watched over by my new cat Dynamite and my 

angel cat Amber.  I showed him a drawing of something similar from Pinterest. 

I just love this drawing. 

One thing I like to do is listen to Podcasts.  I have started to listen to some pet podcasts.

Specifically cat related podcasts.  My favorite podcast is "Nine Lives with Dr. Kat."  

If you have recently lost your pet cat episode 49 might be a good place to start with 

dealing with your loss.    It's titled " You Are Not Crazy: Pet Loss Grief."  

I thought it was a great episode and wish it had been around last year when I 

lost Amber.  

Here is to my Lucky New Cat.  She is a joy in my life.  

I hope as this year progresses I can share more cat facts with you.

Cat Chat With Dynamite the Rescued Cat. A year of studying cats. January 11, 2020

This year I hope to do a lot of cat blog posts. 

I am starting to listen to different cat podcasts. 

Yes there are podcasts all about cats!

I am also going to try to read a bunch of cat books.

I love learning and thought I would focus on cats this year.

I also may do a few creative writing blogs this year.

Dynamite is such a sweet cat that I often wonder what caused her

to end up out on the streets abandoned. 

I am going to write out all my different ideas of what might have happened. 

My son doesn't like me thinking of this as he doesn't like thinking of Dyna being abandoned.

I also take tons of photo's of Dyna so these blog posts 

will be a way that I can keep a little journal about Dyna.

So here is to a new year, a year where I hope

to Chat about cats.

Well that is if Dynamite will let me use my computer.

She is such a beautiful cat.
