Life of a shopgirl, what a year of sticky notes looks like.

A few years ago I collected sticky notes that were written at work and made a Halloween costume with them.
This is probably the most work I ever put into a costume.
This is what a year of sticky notes looks like.
I think the total number of sticky notes is 480.

Cartoon me.

I’m in the process of cleaning out the clutter in my house.
My sticky note costume is going in the trash.

So I have photographed the costume so I can look back and remember it but not have it sitting in a plastic container taking up space.

Some of the notes I wrote and others were written by coworkers.

Some are favorite quotes,
Others are work notes.

It’s been fun to look at them.

It was a very fun project.

Customers loved it.

Do you ever think about the things you use when you work?

It was like a little time capsule of the year.
Sometimes I think I should be a pile of paper clips,
Or take all the extra ribbons from the balloons we make and be a pile of ribbons.
The other idea I have is dressing up like a fish 🐟 because I call the area I work in the fish bowl.
Are you excited about Halloween?
Even in my 50’s. I am.

The life of a shopgirl, some days glitter happens.

Where I work I make lots of balloons for customers.

Sometimes customers bring in balloons that they have purchased online.  These balloons are typically poor quality and they always smell awful.

Last week a customer bought in balloons filled with glitter.

Each balloon I tried to blow up popped in my face.  I had glitter all over me.  AI could not figure out what holding balloons and covered with glitter should look 👀 like. At least it didn’t create it the way I truly wanted it.

Life of a shopgirl forgetting the person on hold.

When you work in customer service in a retail store, you are expected to answer the phone, and also help customers who are in the store.

Sometimes you answer the phone, and then put it on hold as you get the information the customer is asking for.

Then a customer walks up and wants you to help them.

You forget there’s a customer waiting on the phone…

Then no one wants to pick the call up again.  You know that person who has been on hold is not going to be happy.

It’s something that just happens.

Sorry for the wait, unfortunately we don’t have the coffee you are looking for.

The life of a shopgirl is so not glamorous.
