Family History For Beginners - The Family Group Sheet

After you fill out a pedigree chart, you then begin to fill out family group sheets.  The family group sheet shows just one family unit at a time.  You start with the Husband and Wife.  You put in their birth date, place of birth, marriage date, place of marriage and then if deceased their dates of death and the place where they died and where they are buried.

Then add the children in order of birth.  Putting their birth dates and place of birth.  There is also a space to add when they get married and their spouses names.

Every person in a family group sheet, can have their own pedigree chart.  And as they marry and have children they will have their own family group sheet.  Most people are in two family group sheets, their family group sheet with their parents and then the family group sheet with their spouse and children.
You will want to also keep track of where you got your information.  Most computer programs have a source section with each person that you can put your information in.  If not you can just write out a source sheet for each family. 
I like Ancestry.Com's site because you can attach sources to your person, and then click on and see the original source.  If you are going to get serious with family history Ancestry.com is the best website and worth the money.  If you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints you will have to learn how to use Family Tree on their website too.  It seems hard at first but if you go slow you will figure it out.
About.com is a great place to also check out for free family history advice and it is much easier to understand than the LDS website.
Sorry it has taken me so long to post.  I've been very busy with my own research.  I've actually learned how to read a different form of family history information.  I have found lots of family members that are not in Ancestry.com.  So lots of work for me.  I'm also starting a new job on the weekends at a garden center.  I look forward to learning more about plants.
